A 55-year-old man from Bury St Edmunds has been jailed for 18 weeks after breaching a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO).
On Tuesday 17 March police in Bury St Edmunds arrested Gavin McConkey of Abbotsbury Road, on suspicion of having breached a CBO on three consecutive days: 12th, 13th and 14th March. The CBO had been made on 10 April 2025 for a period of two years and specifically prohibited McConkey from entering ten retailers in the town centre. It was issued following McConkey’s conviction for theft of 10 bottles of Jack Daniels whiskey from Tesco’s in the town on 27 March 2025.
McConkey was subsequently charged with three counts of breaching the CBO and appeared before Ipswich Magistrates Court yesterday, Wednesday 18 March, where he was sentenced to 18 weeks in jail and fined £300.
Sergeant Joe Nettelton from the Bury St Edmunds Community Policing Team (CPT) said: “Retail crime is both a local and national priority. Our role in CPT is to support on those priorities, working with local businesses and stakeholders. We also look to target prolific offenders, for which Gavin McConkey is. This action demonstrates our commitment to this priority and our businesses. We will continue to take action.”
